In August we were excited to engage Melody Music Therapy in providing weekly group music therapy sessions for our day program clients.

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is the evidence-based process of using music interventions to improve aspects of a person’s health, be it physical, cognitive, or emotional. Within this process, the therapist and client work together in a therapeutic relationship to accomplish individualized goals and inspire this change towards a healthier way of being. Music therapy is practiced by a credentialed professional. These professionals must have completed an approved music therapy university program and internship.

Music therapy uses music interventions to address the following domains: Cognitive, Communication, Emotional, Motor, Social.

The program has been very well received by our Chesterwye day program friends. The addition of music therapy compliments our existing day program activities including painting, bowling, fishing, animal therapy, aquatics, Special Olympics, cultural museum and site visits.

The addition of this programming is made possible through a contribution by a generous family foundation donation, specifically for music therapy.
